Amino Acids vs Protein

Protein is made of amino acids. The real comparison is therefore not “one or the other,” but different delivery forms of the same basic building blocks.

Protein is the package

Foods and protein powders deliver chains of amino acids plus varying amounts of energy and other nutrients.

Free amino acids skip the intact-protein step

Supplemental amino acids are already in smaller molecular form, so they do not require the same protein digestion process.

Protein helps with daily targets

If total daily protein is low, adding a protein-rich food or powder is a direct way to increase it. An EAA supplement may provide indispensable amino acids without adding the same amount of total protein.

Use the format that solves the problem

Low appetite, dislike of shakes, calorie constraints, meal timing and digestive tolerance can all influence which format is more practical.
