EAA vs BCAA

BCAAs are a subset of EAAs. That single distinction clears up most of the marketing confusion.

BCAAs are three amino acids

Leucine, isoleucine and valine are the branched-chain amino acids. All three are essential, but six other amino acids are also commonly classified as essential in adults.

EAAs are broader

An EAA product is designed to provide the indispensable set rather than only the branched-chain trio. Product labels vary, so verify whether a supplement truly includes all nine.

Leucine is important, not sufficient by itself

Leucine helps signal muscle protein synthesis, but building new muscle protein requires the other necessary amino acids as substrates.

Which makes more sense?

If the goal is specifically to supply indispensable amino acids, a complete EAA mixture is conceptually more complete than BCAAs alone. If the goal is adequate daily protein, complete protein foods or powders are also relevant.
